Healthcare fraud is a growing and significant problem. As our spending on healthcare rises, fraud will likely also increase unless serious steps are taken. Where does this fraud come from? How can it be eliminated? And what can information technology do to help?


Compliance programs can enforce rules and provide incentives and administrative efforts to prevent violations before they occur. Deterrence is also effective, as the detection and penalization of offenders is likely to reduce the willingness of others to engage in fraud.
