William Spooner is senior vice president and chief information officer at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego. He leads the strategic planning and implementation of integrated information systems for the Sharp enterprise. Currently, Mr. Spooner is leading the implementation of new core clinical systems that will include physician order entry and provide the foundation for Sharp’s electronic medical record. Sharp has been included in the Hospitals and Health Networks 100 Most Wired list for four years and was recognized nationally for its leading edge Web site. Mr. Spooner has responsibility for information systems supporting the Sharp network, including hospitals and skilled nursing facilities totaling 1850 beds and two medical groups. The network also includes an independent physicians association and two medical groups with 1,000 affiliated physicians, more than 400,000 capitated HMO lives, a 110,000-member HMO, a home health agency, diverse related health care enterprises, and several business services centers.
